Take a Driving Tour of the Areas Historic Places...

Humpback Bridge, built in 1835 over Dunlap Creek. There are only two known bridges of this design - the other is in France.

Palestine Presbyterian Chapel, dates back to 1842 and was originally used as a sheep shed. It was given to the Presbyterian Church by John Crow, owner of the famous Crows Tavern. Worship services are still held there each Sunday.

Crows Tavern, built prior to 1850, was a famous stopover between the Springs. Crow was known to keep a tame bear on his lawn and was best known for his mint juleps.

Old Earlehurst Stagecoach Tavern - The original burned in 1893, and was replaced with the present one around 1900. Completely restored, it is now used as a family dwelling.

Sweet Chalybeate (Red Springs) - Strongest carbonated mineral water in America - flowing one million one hundred and fifty two thousand gallons daily. Once the home of a famous and elegant hotel.

Old Sweet Springs Resort - The now-unused, but still massive main edifice is an impressive example of Jeffersonian architecture. It is the best preserved of the pre-Civil War hotels.

St. John's Chapel - Built in 1869 , is believed to be the oldest Catholic church in the Wheeling Diocese.

Old Lynnside - A pre-Civil War mansion.

Great Eastern Divide - It sends part of its water to the Atlantic Ocean and part to the Gulf of Mexico. It is the headwaters of the fabled Sweet Springs and Dunlap Creeks.

Old Rehoboth Church and Museum - A pioneer log church built in 1786. It is the oldest Methodist church west of the Alleghenies.
